Timeless Looks for the Winter Cold

I started my career as a makeup artist over sixteen years ago, and in all that time there has never been a drastic shift in seasonal makeup from one year to the next. This is a good thing! Classic color choices and techniques are subtly reinvented each year, inspiring women to create fresh, updated looks for themselves every season.

If you are anything like me, you get bored of doing the same thing with your cosmetics all the time. I look at winter as a time to get excited again about my makeup regimen. Summer is so lazy and relaxed - we look good with little or no effort. But most of us need more help looking our best in the drier winter months. Here are a few ways to reinvent your look for winter without making a huge investment of time or money:

Start wearing foundation! Its the base of any great makeup application and it doesnt have to feel like youre wearing anything at all. The right foundation will even out imperfections (we all have those during the cold winter months) and protect your skin.
Consider wearing a makeup primer. This product prepares the skin for flawless application of foundation and cushions the makeup so that it doesnt creep into little facial nooks and crannies. It also keeps a fresh cosmetic application looking fresh all day long! I like to think of it as spackle for my face.
Add a few new colors to your face! Put away the sheer eye shadows, baby pink lip glosses, and bronzer for blush. Grab a beautiful chocolate brown, charcoal gray, rich navy, or deep purple for your eyes. Add a little eyeliner, which we all tend to lay aside during the summer. Switch to a stronger blush. By stronger I mean not invisible - something to perk up sallow winter skin tones. And finally, put some color back on your lips! Just because its cold outside doesnt mean you have to wear red or dark purple - a pretty, deep rose or plumby neutral can be very flattering. If the thought of wearing a full-fledged lipstick scares you, there are many sheer lip tones available. They give the lips a natural, sheer stain thats often more moisturizing than traditional lipsticks.

So there you have it. A season change should really just signal a few minor changes in your cosmetic routine. I invite you to visit the Scott Miller store and ask for assistance in choosing the colors that will flatter you the most. Remember: makeup comes off! Have fun and play!
