Many are questioning if New Orleans should be rebuilt. The basic argument goes New Orleans is 10 feet below sea level and to rebuild it would be very foolish. Then you have those who reply they Rebuilt San Francisco after the Earthquake. We rebuild Oklahoma City after the Tornado's why shouldn't we rebuild New Orleans? New Orleans and the surrounding area has totally been evacuated (with the exception of a few holdouts about 2%). Many of the evacuees are saying they will never go back. Many other evacuees have deep roots in New Orleans are will go back at all cost's. If they do rebuild New Orleans (and they will) Labor will be required from all over the country. Many of these Construction workers may fall in love with the ocean and the warm weather and decide to stay. It goes back to the old adage 'If you build it they will come.' The question really isn't if they will be rebuild New Orleans, The Question is How they will rebuild New Orleans? To build another massive city 10 feet below sea level with a levee system designed to withstand a Hurricane Category 3 is truly building a disaster just waiting to happen. It would be a criminal to rebuild New Orleans without Upgrading the Levee System to sustain a Bad Category 5 Hurricane. If the politicians Dare Rebuild New Orleans without upgrading the Levee System we might as well put them on trial for Mass Murder right now because that will be the eventual outcome wether its a Day, a Week, a year or 100 Years from now. |
